Summer Sacred Music Choral Festival 2024

Rutter Requiem

Summer Sacred Music

Choral Festival (2024)

The Summer Sacred Music Choral Festival brought together choir members from diverse denominations for a weekend of fellowship, musical growth, and inspired collaboration in June 2024. United by a shared love of sacred choral music, participants devoted themselves to preparing John Rutter’s Requiem, one of the most beloved works in the modern choral-orchestral repertoire.

Over the course of two days of focused rehearsals, singers refined the work’s lyrical beauty and spiritual depth, culminating in a moving concert performance on Saturday evening. Under the direction of Gonzalo A. Ramos, Artistic Director of the Bravura Concert Series and the Houston Cecilia Chamber Choir, the choir joined forces with orchestra to present a heartfelt and uplifting rendition of this masterwork.

From the first rehearsal on Friday evening to the final notes of the Saturday night performance, the festival embodied praise, thanksgiving, and artistic excellence—offering both participants and audience members an unforgettable experience of sacred music in community.

Choir

Glimpse of Heaven (2026)

Glimpse of Heaven brought together singers from multiple Christian denominations for an ecumenical worship event held at the University of Houston Fertitta Center on January 24, 2026, during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. United by a shared faith and a desire to bear witness to the unity of the Church, choristers gathered as part of a classical choir offering sacred music within a larger citywide celebration of worship.

The choir was one of several presentations throughout the evening, which also featured Christian rap,

contemporary worship, interpretive dance, and prayers offered in several languages. The event opened with the sounding of the Jewish shofar, a ram’s horn intentionally pointed in different directions to symbolically carry its spiritual message to the four corners of the world, setting a meaningful tone for all that followed.

Serving as conductor of the Glimpse of Heaven Chorus, Gonzalo A. Ramos led singers from congregations across the region in a moving expression of hope, reverence, and spiritual fellowship. Bringing together diverse voices and traditions toward a shared purpose became both a learning experience and a powerful expression of unity.
